Sarajevo - a city where East meets West ....

Sarajevo, the capital Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a charming city reflecting perfect combination of the past and the modern, a bridge between the East and the West. The city itself was established in the 15th century, but dates back to the Neolithic period and ever since it has symbolized the melting pot of various cultures and religions. Indeed, along only a street you will come across a mosque, a synagogue, an orthodox and a catholic church. But the blend continues to more than sacral monuments and the city arrests Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Socialist and other architectural styles. Sarajevo did become a symbol of the coexistence of communities from different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Latin Bridge

This bridge is, of course, famous as the place where Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, and his pregnant wife, Sophia, were assassinated by a Bosnian Serb nationalist called Gavrilo Princip on 28th June 1914. This assasination sparked off the First World War and thus changed the course of world history.

  1. Nice photos of you, Kit! Did they talk to all of you about the recent history of Sarajevo?!! It was a VERY different city back in the 90's! What sort of jewelry attracts your interest, Kit?
