With liquid dripping from one knee, the bronze sculpture of the Risen Christ has been a mystery in Medjugorje since 2001. While the nature of the liquid is itself mysterious, the mystery as such has just increased, for these days the unknown substance flows from both legs of the sculpture.

  1. These photos make this place look like a fairy tale kingdom ... so I am having a serious case of cognitive dissonance when I think back to the early 90’s and the fact that this area could have stood in for a working definition of Hell! Having watched the winter Olympics in beautiful Sarajevo in 1984, the World watched in horror as the 1992 siege of Sarajevo destroyed the city and left a bloody wake of human rights abuses. The city of Mostar was also in the news with savage fighting, and the bridge just behind the group portrait was destroyed, I think. Glad to see its been rebuilt. Looking at your photos, it is hard to believe the terrible things that happened right here in recent past history!
